Mexican cartel boss Ramon Angel Alvarez Ayala is the person who ordered the murder of 23-year-old influencer Valeria Marquez in May 2025. Mexican authorities say the murder occurred because the young woman had divorced the gangster’s son.

Ayala, a senior figure in the Jalisco New Generation cartel, was arrested by special forces on Thursday, as he was also wanted for the murder of the mayor of the city of Urapacan, Carlos Manzo, at a Day of the Dead festival in November 2025.

Marquez was killed in her beauty salon in Jalisco when a masked gunman entered her business and shot her in the chest and head.

“R1” ordered the murder of influencer Valeria Márquez at the request of her son in May of last year. The Secretary of Security, Omar García Harfuch, discovered that the boss’s son and the young woman were having an affair and had threatened him several times.

At the time, in fact, the execution was broadcast live, as at the time of the murder, the 23-year-old was broadcasting live to her followers when the gunman entered the business and asked her if her name was Valeria.

According to Mexico’s Minister of Civil Protection, Ayala organized the murder after receiving a call from his son, Francisco Alvarez, who was in a relationship with the influencer.

“Alvarez had repeatedly threatened him and everything indicates, and this will be proven, that the son asked his father to carry out the murder of his ex-wife,” he said.
