A macabre event in Mystras, Greece, has shocked public opinion.
New details reveal that the 55-year-old son allegedly kept his dead father’s body in a freezer for about 2.5 years, to continue receiving his and his late mother’s pension.
According to preliminary investigations, the 55-year-old’s mother had passed away earlier, while her pension was being received by her husband, the 90-year-old father of the arrested man.
The case was discovered after authorities in Laconia received information that the 90-year-old, born in 1936, had not been seen for a long time.
During the investigation, police contacted his 55-year-old son, who claimed that his father had left and was living in Athens.
However, investigators verified his statement and contacted the 55-year-old’s sister, who lives in Athens. She told authorities that she had not seen her father for years and that he had been living with her brother.
Following these suspicions, the police conducted a search, in the presence of the prosecutor, at a hotel owned by the 55-year-old. The building was closed and he was using it as a residence.
In the basement of the hotel, police found the body of the 90-year-old man inside a refrigerator, and during the search, an air gun was also found and seized.
The 55-year-old was arrested and, during questioning, allegedly confessed to the incident. He stated that his father had died about two and a half years ago of natural causes and that he had hidden the body in the refrigerator to continue receiving his pension.
According to his statements, he also benefited from his mother’s pension, which was passed on to his father as beneficiary.
A forensic pathologist and a team from the Sparta Criminal Investigation Office arrived at the scene. An autopsy has been ordered for the body to determine the exact cause of death.
The 55-year-old has been charged with perjury, repeated fraud and violation of weapons legislation. He is expected to appear before the prosecutor, while investigations continue by the competent authorities./Top Channel
