Over 100 undeclared trips? SPAK’s new file could bring more charges against Veliaj

As he struggles to escape detention and faces trial on 13 criminal charges at the GJKKO, another investigative front is narrowing the circle around Erion Veliaj. SPAK is deepening its verification of all of the Tirana mayor’s trips abroad during 2022-2023, as well as the expenses incurred during them, which, according to investigations, have largely not been declared in accordance with the requirements of the law.

SPAK is continuing its investigations into the “Veliaj 2” file and, as VNA has previously reported, is verifying all of Erion Veliaj’s trips abroad, as well as the expenses incurred, which have not been declared according to the law.

From the documentation seized from the Municipality of Tirana and verifications in the TIMS system, it results that the mayor, during the years 2022-2023, has made over 100 trips to various destinations around the world.

During this time, when Veliaj was abroad, footage of him on duty was published in Tirana, planting trees or inaugurating schools and kindergartens, while, according to investigations, these materials had been recorded earlier.

Another detail that was found by investigators from the National Bureau of Investigation is that the expenses for these trips were not declared, in the vast majority of them, in the asset declarations of the Mayor of Tirana.

This investigation could bring new criminal charges against Erion Veliaj, as he continues his efforts to leave the detention cell, where he has been held since February 10, 2025.

Currently, Erion Veliaj is being tried at the GJKKO on 13 criminal charges, along with his wife and several other defendants. /Taken from “Vna.al”
