Italy withdraws famous product from markets, it is also sold in Albania: There is a risk for…!

A new food alert has been issued by the Italian Ministry of Health, which has withdrawn a series of mortadellas from the market due to the presence of Listeria monocytogenes, a bacterium that can cause listeriosis.

The measure concerns Mortadella Nostrale marketed by Salumificio Pignone di Viaggi Alessandra , produced by Salumificio Pignone in the factory in via Levanto 397, Pignone (La Spezia), identified with the CE mark IT9-1733/L.

The recall affects product series 3105, which is sold in packages of approximately 300 grams. The recall information does not indicate an expiration date or minimum shelf life.

As stated in the announcement, the reason for the recall is “microbiological incompatibility due to the presence of Listeria monocytogenes.” Therefore, consumers are advised not to consume any purchased products.

Listeria monocytogenes is a bacterium that can contaminate some foods and cause listeriosis, an infection that can manifest with gastrointestinal or flu-like symptoms in most healthy people, but which can be especially dangerous for pregnant women, the elderly, newborns, and people with compromised immune systems.

Among the latest recalls posted on the Ministry of Health’s website, yesterday’s announcement concerns five different types of ramen because they were produced in an unauthorized facility.

At the end of July, the same ministry published recall notices for 60 batches of fresh caciocavallo and two batches of fresh caciotta from Renzini Sila Agricultural Company due to the presence of Escherichia coli, and one batch of organic dried figs from the Noberasco brand due to the presence of levels of ochratoxin A exceeding the legal limit.

The product is also popular in Albania and is marketed by various markets in the country, however, the data must be checked and properly confronted regarding the date, time and place of production of the product withdrawn from the market in Italy.
