At least 18 people, most of them teenagers, were killed on Tuesday after two buses carrying agricultural workers collided in northern Egypt.
Most of the dead were teenagers aged 13 or 14. The youngest victim was 10, according to local media outlet Al-Masry Al-Youm. Another 32 were also injured.
Despite the risks, buses are a common means of transportation for millions of workers, including minors, and are often overcrowded.
The passengers, most of whom came from two villages in the Nile Delta, were “going to work on a farm,” a security source said.
Child labor is a persistent problem in Egypt, affecting at least 1.3 million minors, according to official figures.
