Six days after Sokol Hoxha was deported to Albania by US embassy marshals and the federal police agency ICE, Sokol Hoxha has appealed to the court to be released.
As very reliable sources informed Top Channel journalist Anila Hoxha, the man convicted in Albania for the murder of brothers Ilirjan and Hektor Banaj has gone to the Fier court.
Through his lawyers, the convict says that the decision against him is time-barred as he has been living on the run for more than 25 years and therefore should be released.
The sources added that the draw has been made and the case will be heard on September 16 in this court.
Meanwhile, Sokol Hoxha, brought to Albania after an international investigation revealed that he was hiding from several countries, is also wanted in Belgium for the murder of Brunilda Dervishi. But the Belgians did not submit any request for his extradition to their country of Hoxha, who, after an escape that began in 1997, was discovered with a Kosovar identity in the USA.
Top Channel journalist Anila Hoxha reports that Sokol Hoxha is being held in detention center 313, and the Albanian decision was communicated to him by a judicial police officer, while the general prosecutor’s office has notified the Belgian authorities of the situation with the suggestion that he serve his life sentence for Dervish’s murder in Albania.
And while the Fier court is expected to calculate the statute of limitations against the wanted man, in the Brussels file made available to Top Channel journalist Anila Hoxha, it is mentioned that Brulinda Dervishi married her killer in Elbasan a month before he was killed.
The couple traveled to Belgium and in August 1997, the day before she was murdered, the victim called her parents expressing her concern that her husband wanted to kill her.
It turns out that the parents were then called by Hoxha, who asked for the address where the young woman was.
From the previous dynamics of the event, the perpetrator found the victim in the ‘Ship shops’ bar in Brussels and there she was shot to death. The young woman was in the company of another Albanian.
Authorities identified Hoxha from the phone number with which he communicated with Brunilda’s parents, which belonged to another young Albanian woman with the initials AZ, who practiced prostitution in Brussels.
It was during the search of the apartment where this citizen, who is suspected of having fled to Britain with a false identity, lived, that a Greek identification document with the suspect’s photograph was found./Top Channel
