A 51-year-old man has been arrested in Rome, after allegedly killing his mother and then hiding her body inside a closet in the apartment where she lived.
The discovery was made after relatives of the 71-year-old, concerned that they were unable to communicate with her, sought the intervention of the authorities. The family had also raised the alarm due to the conflicting relationship between the woman and her son.
According to Italian media reports, mother and son had frequent arguments. One of the clues being verified is that the conflicts were related to the 51-year-old’s constant demands for money, which he allegedly used to buy narcotics.
The Carabinieri went to the woman’s apartment, an apartment located on the 14th floor of a building in Rome. During the search, they made a shocking discovery: the 71-year-old’s body had been stuffed into a closet.
The victim had a bag around his head, and there were signs of injuries on his face. These elements immediately raised suspicions that the death was not accidental.
The son initially tried to give investigators a different explanation. He claimed that his mother had fallen and hit her head, and then he had put her body in the closet during the night.
The 51-year-old’s confession was not considered convincing by the authorities. After questioning and verifications carried out in the apartment, he was detained as the main suspect and later arrested for the murder of his mother.
Investigators are working to reconstruct the last hours of the 71-year-old’s life and determine how she died. It is expected that further investigations will also clarify the motive for the conflict that allegedly ended in the crime.
