The US Department of State confirms that the administration of President Donald Trump is using legal authority to revoke visas in cases where concerns are identified regarding national security, public safety, or other circumstances that, according to US authorities, make such a measure necessary.
In an official response to the media, a spokesperson for the US State Department clarified that visas can be revoked at any time when there is evidence that raises doubts about the visa holder’s suitability or when he is considered a potential threat to public security.
“The Trump administration is protecting our nation and its citizens by enforcing the highest standards of national security and public safety throughout the visa process,” the State Department said in a statement.
According to US authorities, visa revocation can also be carried out in other circumstances when such a measure is deemed necessary. Among the reasons cited are criminal activities, violation of visa conditions, fraud and concerns related to national security.
The State Department also referred to the position of Secretary of State Marco Rubio, according to whom “a US visa is a privilege, not a right.”
According to the US State Department, Secretary Rubio has broad authority to revoke visas, and the Trump administration is committed to exercising this authority when there is a significant United States policy interest.
How many Albanians have lost their visas?
The issue of visa revocation has also raised questions about the number of Albanian citizens affected by this policy.
A week ago, it was reported that the US State Department had revoked more than 175,000 visas for foreign nationals since Donald Trump returned to the White House.
However, the State Department has not announced how many of these cases belong to Albanian citizens.
The department has explained that, as a general rule, it does not comment on specific cases due to the confidentiality of visa-related data.
Thus, the US confirms that visa revocation is being used as an instrument of the Trump administration’s policy to protect national and public security, but there is no official public figure for the number of Albanians who have lost their US visas.
