A false alarm about explosives being placed in a 9-year-old school in Tirana has put the State Police in motion this morning. At around 06:30, a 47-year-old man called the Tirana Police claiming that there was terrorism and weapons of mass destruction at the “Emin Duraku” school.
Immediately after the call, the Police, Anti-Explosive Unit and Anti-Terror Unit went to the school. After checks and verifications, it turned out that the information was false and there were no dangerous substances on the school premises.
According to the State Police, further investigations revealed that the author of the call, a citizen with the initials MJ, had also published the false information on social networks. Before his arrest, he had made a live video, showing that he had called the police and was waiting for the patrol to arrive.
“I just called the State Police to denounce terrorism in schools. Let’s see how much they will come. I hope every parent does the same to protect their children. Let’s see how much patrols come. There is no traffic, the streets are empty. When you are at the Prime Minister’s Office, they arrest you in seconds. The Albanian paradox, a child is not worth as much as the prime minister,” says 47-year-old Mandi Jatagani in the live video.
Following the video, he states: “Let’s see what the patrol comes up with,” while according to the police, the call had caused the mobilization of specialized structures due to the nature of the complaint.
Specialists of the Anti-Terror Unit have arrested citizen MJ, 47 years old, for the criminal offenses of “False reporting to law enforcement agencies” and “Spreading false information that causes panic.”
The police announce that the procedural materials will be referred to the Tirana Prosecutor’s Office for further action.
