The Economic Crime Unit at the Gjirokastër Local Police Directorate discovers a large quantity of smuggled cigarettes hidden in the Athens-Tirana bus.
The incident occurred in the early hours of this morning in Kakavija when the passenger bus, which runs the Tirana-Athens-Tirana route, was intercepted at the exit of the Customs in Kakavija, leaving the customs officers on duty to discover that they had apparently allowed a large quantity of cigarette contraband to enter Albanian territory.
It is known that there were about 90 packs of cigarettes hidden in secret places locked in different parts of the bus. Among them, several bags of clothes without purchase receipts and customs clearance.
As a result, the driver and the other person responsible on the bus have been criminally prosecuted, while the arrest of the two customs officers on duty and the shift manager is expected after the first actions, such as reviewing footage from customs cameras, seizing and examining phones, are carried out.
