The Special Court of First Instance for Corruption and Organized Crime has declared the leader of the Mundësia Party, Agron Shehaj, innocent in the trial initiated following a private complaint by businessman Bashkim Ulaj.
The case related to the defamation charge, filed by Ulaj against Shehaj for the latter’s public statements and positions regarding the property issue in the Rrjoll area and his support for the residents’ protests. At the end of the trial, the Special Court dismissed the charge and declared Agron Shehaj innocent.
In a reaction, the Opportunity Party described the decision as a confirmation that denouncing issues of public interest does not constitute a criminal offense, but is part of the responsibility of a political representative.
According to this political force, freedom of expression should be protected and not penalized, while commitment was expressed to continue supporting the residents of Rrjoll and citizens who seek the protection of their property and rights.
