Another strong earthquake in Greece, epicenter and magnitude

An earthquake with a magnitude of 5.1 on the Richter scale was recorded on Sunday evening in the Methoni area, in southwestern Greece.

According to preliminary data from Greek seismological authorities, the tremors were felt in several areas of the Messinia region, while so far there have been no reports of casualties or significant material damage.

The earthquake comes just days after Greece was hit by a series of seismic tremors in different regions of the country. Last week, several earthquakes with a magnitude of over 5 were recorded in the Evia area, which were also felt in Athens and put Greek authorities on alert.

Experts have announced that they are closely monitoring seismic activity in the country, which is considered one of the most active seismic zones in Europe.

Greece is located in one of the most earthquake-prone regions in the Mediterranean, due to its position on the boundary of tectonic plates. For this reason, such tremors are recorded frequently, although most of them do not cause serious consequences.
