The head of SPAK, Klodian Braho, stated that the Prosecution had been aware of Ermal Beqiri’s whereabouts for weeks and that, in cooperation with French authorities, it had taken the necessary procedural actions to locate him.
During the first meeting with journalists, where he presented the balance sheet of SPAK’s work for the period January 1 – July 15, 2026, Braho explained that the international wanted announcement was not a random act, but part of a coordinated investigative process.
“If the wanted person is no longer in Albania, the procedure provides for his being declared an international wanted person. The investigative group has been in contact with the French authorities. He has been located for weeks. The prosecution knew where he was and sent a letter of request to the French authorities. It is an ongoing process and in the coming days there will be an official announcement,” said Braho.
The head of SPAK also announced that the institution has requested the seizure of all assets owned by Ermal Beqiri.
“We are not only talking about aircraft, but also about other assets owned by the person in question,” he said, without providing further details due to the ongoing investigation.
According to Albanian authorities, the arrest was made thanks to cooperation between Interpol Tirana and Interpol Lyon.
Beqiri is currently in custody in France and legal procedures are expected to be followed for his extradition to Albania.
