Iran’s new maritime authority confirmed the “complete closure” of the Strait of Hormuz “until further notice,” after the Revolutionary Guards announced the decision overnight.
“Due to the tensions caused by the aggression of US forces in the region and the announcement made last night by the Iranian armed forces, the Strait of Hormuz will be closed until further notice,” the Persian Gulf Strait Authority said in a statement published on the social network X.
For the second night in a row, the US and Iranian militaries attacked targets in various countries in the region.
The US Central Command announced around midnight on Wednesday that it had launched strikes on Iran. The main targets were cities and provinces in the Strait of Hormuz, and radar and defense systems in Bandar Abbas, Qeshm Island and Hengam were targeted.
Iran responded by launching missiles at other countries in the region, again targeting US bases in Kuwait, Bahrain and Jordan. In the latter, the Revolutionary Guards announced that they had launched 12 ballistic missiles at the Al-Azraq base where the US keeps F-35, F-15 and F-16 aircraft.
