The Minister of Interior, Besfort Lamallari, together with the Director of the State Police, Skënder Hita, have arrived in Saranda following the scandal of the unauthorized construction of “CopaCabana”, a beach bar that led to the dismissal of the main leaders of the local police.
During his statement, Lamallari described the Albanian coast as a national asset and warned that no one can place personal interests above the law and public interest.
He said that the immediate reaction of the police and oversight structures was a clear message that illegality will not be tolerated, emphasizing that institutions cannot wait until multi-story buildings are erected without permits.
The minister demanded a thorough investigation into the case and warned of measures against any police officer who cooperated or tolerated the violations.
According to him, law enforcement officers have only two options: to enforce the law responsibly or face legal consequences.
Lamallari also raised concerns about public safety in coastal areas, stating that phenomena such as tire shooting or illegal possession of weapons are unacceptable and should be punished without tolerance.
He emphasized that the reason why some police leaders are facing justice today is precisely related to their inaction against illegality.
