The body of a Scottish woman has been found inside a suitcase in an abandoned building in the Kypseli neighborhood of Athens, prompting an investigation by Greek authorities in collaboration with British ones.
Police Scotland confirmed it is working with Greek authorities after the woman’s body was discovered last month by a homeless man.
According to Greek state broadcaster ERT, the victim is suspected to be Elisabeth-Jane Ross, 38, who is believed to have travelled from Cyprus to Greece last month. Investigators estimate she had been dead for five to seven days before she was found.
Greek police said the body of a British citizen was identified after fingerprints matched Interpol records for a woman born in 1988. Investigations into the circumstances of the incident are ongoing.
Greek authorities said the cause of death has not yet been determined, while the results of forensic tests are awaited. Police are also awaiting additional information from British authorities regarding the victim’s identification and movements.
“Further details have been requested from the British authorities regarding the time she arrived in Greece and who she travelled with. We cannot provide any further information at this stage, as the investigation is still ongoing,” a Greek police spokesman said.
