The Ministry of Health and Social Protection has ordered the development of an in-depth administrative investigation into the way the case of a 52-year-old man with the initials AA from Durrës was handled.
For this purpose, leaders of the Healthcare Services Operator and the State Social Service are on the ground, where they are conducting inspections and supervising the administrative investigation process in the relevant structures in Durrës.
The Ministry informs that the patient is currently hospitalized at the Durrës Regional Hospital, where he is receiving medical treatment. In parallel, all health and administrative documentation is being reviewed, as well as the responsibilities of the persons involved in his treatment and transportation.
According to the authorities, at the conclusion of the investigation, all administrative or legal measures that prove necessary will be taken, while emphasizing the commitment to full transparency and the clarification of all circumstances of the event.
The 52-year-old, heroin user, methadone treatment recipient and HIV carrier, had spent nearly two months in hospitals and had undergone surgery at the University Hospital Center about 20 days earlier. After returning to Durres and being discharged from the hospital, his health condition worsened, necessitating another surgical intervention at the Durres Regional Hospital.
He is currently in the intensive care unit under the care of the medical team. Doctors say his condition appears stable after the latest surgery and, if his progress continues positively, he is expected to be transferred to the ward.
