The Special Court (GJKKO) has drawn lots, where the judicial panel that will try Ilir Meta and Monika Kryemadhi has been assigned. It is learned that the rapporteur of the case of the former presidential couple Meta-Kryemadhi will be special judge Erjon Bani, who is also the head of the GJKKO. It is learned that Bani has set the date for June 5, at 11:00, for the start of the process of the “century” file against former president Meta and his ex-wife Monika Kryemadhi, which will be conducted with an ordinary trial, unlike the other defendants in the file.
The trial against Meta comes after the separation of the case and the acceptance of the summary trial for Fatime Kryemadhi, the mother of former MP Monika Kryemadhi, as well as for Ema Çoku and Pirro Xhixho. The hearing for the latter will be held on June 8. We recall that the Special Court decided on March 18 to pass on to trial the file in charge of Ilir Meta, his ex-wife Monika Kryemadhi, the mother of the latter Fatime Kryemadhi, as well as Pirro Xhixho and Ema Çoku. Ilir Meta has been in detention since October 2024. The former president is being investigated for three corruption cases: the CEZ-DIA affair, the LSI lobbying in the US and the property investigation. Currently, SPAK has closed the investigations and his file has been sent for trial.

Meanwhile, the deputies of the parliamentary group of the Freedom Party have addressed an official request to the President of the Constitutional Court and its members, requesting respect for the legal deadlines for the disclosure of the decision given in the plenary session of April 8, 2026, regarding the case of the applicant Ilir Meta, president of the Freedom Party. In the letter addressed to the Constitutional Court, the deputies request the announcement of the reasoned decision, while emphasizing the constitutional importance and high public interest that this issue carries, underlining that respect for the deadlines provided for by the law “On the organization and functioning of the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Albania”, as well as by the Regulation on Judicial Procedures of the Constitutional Court, is essential for guaranteeing legal certainty, transparency and public trust in constitutional justice.
“In this context, we bring to your attention that any unjustified delay in the disclosure of the decision, contrary to the deadlines set by law, would constitute a violation of the standards of a due process of law, the principle of legal certainty, as well as the very credibility of constitutional justice. Appreciating the role and responsibility of the Constitutional Court as a guarantor of the Constitution and fundamental rights, we express the expectation that the disclosure of the decision will be carried out within the legally established deadlines,” the request of the Freedom Party deputies states. The request was signed by deputies Tedi Blushi, Edmond Haxhinasto, Erisa Xhixho and Brunilda Haxhiu.
