Ukrainian and Polish experts have recently challenged Russian President Vladimir Putin’s claims that the Oreshnik medium-range ballistic missile is undetectable by current NATO missile defense systems.
After an analysis of the remains of a missile used in January of this year in Lviv, Ukrainian experts have emphasized that the missile in question is an experimental weapon from 2017 created only with parts manufactured in Russia and Belarus.
Technical evidence suggests that Oreshnik is part of Soviet infrastructure modernization projects and is not a new solution.
On the other hand, Polish experts have noticed that in the entry phase, the missile, although moving at high speed, is not capable of trajectory maneuvers, exposing itself to Western systems.
The data supports early American classifications according to which the Oreshnik is a development of the older Russian system, the RS-26 Rubezh.
