The Special Prosecution Office has officially reacted to the appearance of former Deputy Prime Minister Belinda Balluku at SPAK premises, explaining the reason for her summons.
“In response to your requests, Ms. Belinda Balluku has been summoned to the Special Prosecution Office to be briefed on the charges, which are related to several procurement procedures under investigation; to be questioned regarding the charges, as well as to be provided with other procedural acts,” SPAK’s response states.
Earlier in the day, the former Deputy Prime Minister appeared at the premises of the Special Prosecution Office, where she stayed for about 20 minutes.
Balluk was informed of the extension of the investigation period by three months, as well as the new charges related to three lots of the Grand Ring Road project.
Upon leaving SPAK, Balluku was accompanied by her lawyer, Ardian Kalia. Neither the former number two in the government nor her legal counsel declined to comment to the media, despite the interest of journalists.
We also recall that during the morning, citizens and activists gathered in front of SPAK, shouting slogans against Belinda Balluku.
Meanwhile, a day ago, the head of SPAK, Klodian Braho, told reporters that Belinda Balluku’s case is a priority and that investigations against her continue.
Balluku has been named as a defendant in the Llogara Tunnel and the Grand Ring Road. She is being investigated for corruption and money laundering, related to two tenders worth over 1 million euros at the time she was the General Director of “Albcontrol”.
