The danger of nuclear weapons and the balance of fear among world powers was one of the topics covered in “Top Story”.

Physicist Fatos Klosi explained why, despite the large nuclear arsenals possessed by the most powerful states, these weapons have not been used since World War II.

He also spoke about countries that possess nuclear weapons, the situation with Iran, and the role that these weapons have played as a deterrent in international conflicts.

“The catastrophe that would follow the use of nuclear weapons is unimaginable. The great powers have nuclear weapons to destroy the world several times. This has also been the reason why they have not been used until now. There was also the Cold War, when situations were very tense and it did not occur to them to use them. The situation we have today is a bit strange. An American president who has begun to like himself and makes a lot of claims. Even NATO says that this is not the solution. An agreement was made with Iran. There may be claims that Iran has nuclear weapons, but it is a bit far from it. An agreement was made before Trump came to power that Iran would not have nuclear weapons. Trump came to power and that agreement was canceled. It was an agreement that had been determined in detail what the controls on Iran would be.

Nuclear weapons, for now, are only available to very large countries. The USA, Russia, China, England, France, India and Pakistan. South Korea does not, but North Korea does. North Korea has said bluntly that it needs those weapons so that no one attacks it. Nuclear weapons create a danger that is too great to demand that no country start a war with them.
