A Jet2 airline plane with around 220 passengers on board has made an emergency landing in Porto after the pilot suffered a heart attack during a flight from Tenerife to Birmingham.
According to reports, the incident occurred while the plane was at high altitude, causing concern and panic among passengers. Immediately after the medical emergency, the crew requested assistance on board, while the co-pilot took control of the plane and initiated emergency landing procedures.
Passengers have reported that moments of tension arose in the cabin, with frightened passengers, crying children and flight attendants asking if there was a doctor among the passengers.
The plane landed safely at Porto airport at around 02:11 a.m. The pilot was immediately transported to hospital for medical treatment, while the passengers continued their journey to Britain on another flight.
In an official response, Jet2 stated that passenger safety was not at risk at any time and apologized for the inconvenience caused, also offering free changes for future trips.
