A drunk passenger caused scenes of chaos on a Ryanair flight to the UK after he got into a fight with police officers who intervened to calm him down following an argument with his partner.
Passengers on board were left shocked as the man, who witnesses said was intoxicated, was seen in the video punching a police officer in the face.
“They were very drunk before we left Edinburgh. There was an argument between the couple and that’s where it all started. Some passengers were scared and left shocked by what happened,” said one of the passengers.
Footage shows that, after the initial incident, three police officers attempt to subdue the man by keeping him on the floor, while one of them stands over him to immobilize him. The video also shows one officer attempting to subdue him with a punch, while another uses a baton during the intervention.
Ryanair chief executive Michael O’Leary has previously stated that almost one flight a day is forced to be diverted due to incidents caused by disruptive passengers.
He has called for a limit of two alcoholic drinks for passengers in airport bars, saying he does not understand why alcohol is served to passengers in the early hours of the morning.
