Protesters demand a Prime Minister, with no more than two terms! Taulant Balla responds for the first time

The head of the Socialist Party Parliamentary Group, Taulant Balla, declared that the majority is ready to cooperate with any political force that represents citizens in Parliament, provided that it supports European integration.

While linking it to the protesters’ demands, Balla stated that the majority will cooperate with any protester or citizen who is represented by a political formation, but decided as a condition that they distance themselves from Iran and Russia.

“Related to the protesters, when every protester, every citizen who will be represented through a political formation and it will have seats in parliament, we will cooperate with them, on the condition that they support the EU membership process, that they distance themselves from Iran, Russia and other actors unfriendly to Albania,” Balla declared to journalists at the end of the meeting of the Conference of Presidents.

Regarding one of the protesters’ demands, which is to limit the prime minister’s mandate, Balla rejected it, arguing that the constitution is new and we are not in a position to change it.

“We are a country that can be called a new republic, in terms of the years we have with the constitution. You know that I am a partisan of the fact that we have adopted the best model of a pure parliamentary republic, the best model in my opinion in the EU is the German one. Neither in Germany nor in the parliamentary republics that I know of is there a limitation of mandates. In the case of parliamentary republics, the limitation is made by the people’s vote. In this regard, don’t bother telling them in vain, because we have a new constitution, we have a new republic and we are not in a position to change the form of organization of the Albanian state”, declared Taulant Balla.
