Extreme temperatures during August, here’s the weather forecast for the coming summer

MeteoAlb meteorologist Hakil Osmani, in a live broadcast for Euronews Albania with journalist Alba Xhani, gave the detailed forecast for the weekend and the entire week, warning that the thermometer is expected to rise to 41°C in some regions of the country.

According to him, the first 15 days of the month will be the hottest and with a significant lack of precipitation, while the highest thermal values will be recorded in cities such as Elbasan, Berat, Tirana, Gjirokastra and Shkodra. Meanwhile, the only relief is expected only after the middle of the month, where temperatures will experience a slight drop and the first rain showers will appear.

“Today, in fact, remains with very high temperatures, where we expect the maximums to be about 10 degrees higher than normal values, causing temperatures to be recorded very close to 41°C. The regions that will have the highest temperatures remain Elbasan and Berat, but the capital will also come very close to 40°C. Gjirokastra and Shkodra are also expected to have temperatures that will be around 40°C.

Even the coastline, for all those who will be vacationing this weekend, is expected to have quite high temperatures, causing them to fluctuate from 36 to very close to 39°C. The area that will be cooler remains the southeast of the Albanian territory, causing the maximums there to fluctuate from 30 to 33°C.

In terms of weather conditions, it is expected to be a weekend with long intervals of sunshine, where these will be most visible on the coastline and partly in the cities of the low-lying area. In the mountainous areas, occasional light cloudiness is expected only during the afternoon hours, causing only very short intervals of time with the possibility of isolated rain showers to be created in the northeastern edge. The rest of the territory will be dominated by stable weather.

Although we have a slight drop in air temperatures by midweek, causing the maximums to drop to around 38°C, the second part of the week again shows signs of reactivating the heat waves that have affected the Albanian territory throughout this weekend. They are easily withdrawn from the Albanian territory, until Monday and Wednesday, and then reactivated again, causing the maximums in our country to climb very close to 40-41°C, causing the first week of August to have very high temperatures.

The second part of the week, given that we also have this sudden increase in air temperatures mainly in the northern areas, there are opportunities for convective showers. These are showers that are created in a very small geographical area in short periods of time and cause us to have showers that last from 5 to 10 minutes.

At least until the first 15 days of the month, air temperatures are expected to be very high, at 40°C or easily exceeding this value. The second part of August then brings a slight drop in air temperatures, causing maximums to fluctuate at 36-37°C across the territory.

“But also, the first part of this August is expected to be mainly dominated by stable weather, so we have a lack of precipitation, while in the second 15 days it is expected and there are signals that the downpours will be somewhat more present,” said Osmani.
