A community in Michigan, USA, has been rocked by a serious family tragedy, where a 47-year-old man is suspected of killing his wife and their six children, before killing himself.
The shooting occurred at a lakeside residence in the Riverside Trail area of Grand Haven Township. According to the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Department, the suspected perpetrator is Kristopher “Kris” Karolkiewicz, who fatally shot his wife Amanda “Mandy” Karolkiewicz, 39, and their six children.
Authorities said the bodies of eight family members were found inside the apartment, along with their pets. Forensic investigations confirmed that all had died from gunshot wounds.
According to investigators, Kristopher Karolkiewicz is suspected of intentionally starting several fires inside the house, in an attempt to destroy evidence, before turning the gun on himself.
The incident was discovered after neighbors reported smelling smoke. Firefighters initially arrived at the apartment in the morning hours, but after noticing any visible flames, they temporarily left. Later, after more calls about heavy smoke, firefighters returned and forced their way into the apartment, where they discovered the tragedy.
Authorities have launched an investigation to determine the motive for the incident. One of the leads being examined is related to the recent loss of Christopher’s job, who until July 2026 had held the position of national vice president of sales and marketing at the American Heart Association.
Meanwhile, new details have emerged from his wife’s posts on Reddit, where she had previously confessed to problems in her marriage, betrayal, and emotional difficulties in the couple’s relationship.
Amanda, a substitute teacher and activist for children with special needs, wrote that she had stayed in the marriage primarily because of their six children.
Amanda’s family has demanded that authorities reveal the full reason for this tragedy. Her cousin, Emily Stoye Jones, said the family needs answers.
“Everyone wants to know why. It’s incomprehensible and we need to know,” she said.
Amanda’s parents, Steve and Becky Lawwill, described their daughter as a loving person and dedicated to her family and students.
The investigation continues, as authorities have seized electronic devices, financial documents and evidence related to the suspected arson
