The Macedonian side has done everything to prevent Albanians from Albania and Kosovo from joining the protest in Skopje for the use of the Albanian language.
But Skopje’s Stone Bridge was dressed in red and black, with calls to protect the Albanian language. Thousands of Albanian students are demanding the constitutional right for the bar exam to be held in Albanian.
“Respect the language law, respect the Constitution” was the main banner of the protest with calls for the KLA and “Albanian language, trusts”. With numerous banners in their hands, the protesters demanded the resignation of the Minister of Justice, Igor Fillkov, who has opposed the students’ request to hold the exam in the Albanian language.
In her introductory monologue and in a new ‘studio’ in Skopje, Top Story’s author and moderator, Grida Duma, called this student movement the one that represents the essence and greatest elixir of Albania and the Albanian.
“We started this Top Story, not with memory and history, but only with chronology, because we went to October first in fact and there is no need for modesty in this situation. We have joined the extraordinary mission, that the heroes of the moment for the Albanian space, who are the university students here in Macedonia, have started this mission with a parade against all politics. During this Top Story, on this hill of Skopje, where we have traveled for hours and hours and there have been no few challenges… I will not say the vicissitudes, because I do not want to consider them as such. We have come here for hours together with colleagues from Tirana and not only, I have an extraordinary representation of students here.
This student movement represents perhaps the essence and greatest elixir of Albania, of the Albanian. Invaders, aggressors, whoever they may have been, in our Albanian history, they have managed time and again to manipulate, exterminate, and even destroy archaeology to show how ancient we are in history, there is one thing they have not been able to do and have not been able to defeat, the Albanian language.
The Albanian language is the factor that has amazed every scholar and dismantled every destroyer of our history. The Albanian language is what is being preserved today by the extraordinary students of the University of Tetova and not only, who have joined this extraordinary day, important for the history of Albania, students from Albania, students from Kosovo and have been able to make red all that is the conscience of Albanians wherever they are and have brought us here again, making us very proud of them”, said Grida Duma in her monologue.
