Greek media write that the accident occurred around 3:00 in the morning, when the motorcycle on which the two Albanians were traveling went off the road under still unclear circumstances and collided with metal curbs.

Although they were quickly transported by ambulance to the Chania Hospital, the two young men could not survive their injuries and lost their lives.

Aleksandër Toçila and Edison Xhaka were traveling by motorcycle on the Kissamos-Hania road, near the town of Kolymbari in Crete, when they were involved in an accident and, according to the Albanian Association of Kisamo “Kastel” on the island, died on the spot.

Edison reportedly lived and worked in Kissamos for years, while Aleksandr lived and worked part-time in the same area.

“It is a serious event, which has left us all speechless. Edison, a hardworking, respectable boy, with dreams for the future, which were cut short, leaving his family, his numerous friends, but also the local public, saddened. Of course, the pain is the same for Aleksandar, for his family, for his  friends,” the Association writes.

The Xhaka family has opened its doors for condolences near the apartment of Edison’s older brother, Festimi, while for the Toçila family, the condolence reception will take place at the association’s premises, which will be open to compatriots.
