The head of the socialist parliamentary group has asked the majority MPs not to leave the capital after the closing of the parliamentary session, while the reason for this request has not yet been made public.
This Thursday’s plenary session was held without the presence of opposition MPs, as the Democratic Party and the Freedom Party continue to boycott the proceedings of the Assembly. The absence of the opposition led to the cancellation of the planned interpellation between MP Jorida Tabaku and the Minister of Finance, while the discussions were held mainly between the majority MPs.
During the proceedings, the leader of the Socialist parliamentary group, Taulant Balla, gave a message to the Socialist Party deputies to remain in Tirana even after the end of the parliamentary session.
According to sources, the possibility of holding a special plenary session on July 27 is not ruled out, although no official announcement has been made public as to the reason for this request.
It has been rumored in political circles that this move could be related to the review of draft laws related to the European integration process, but also to possible changes in the composition of the government cabinet.
During today’s session, which was dominated by debates among socialist deputies, Taulant Balla requested that the changes to the tourism law be reviewed through an expedited procedure.
The changes foresee the suspension of construction works during the tourist season in tourist areas, with the aim of avoiding noise and disturbances near accommodation structures and improving the experience of holidaymakers.
Meanwhile, Socialist MP Erion Braçe raised concerns about the relationship between farmers and collectors of agricultural products, calling for rapid intervention to protect local producers.
The political situation remains open, while it remains to be seen whether the Assembly will convene outside the usual calendar and whether the request for the Socialist MPs to remain in Tirana is related to new political developments.
