New details come to light from the investigations into the murder of Joan Zyko in Korça, an event for which Kristjan Sterjo was arrested in flagrante delicto, suspected of the criminal offenses of “Premeditated Murder” and “Unlicensed Possession and Production of Weapons, Explosive Weapons and Ammunition”.
In his testimony before investigators, Sterjo recounted his version of how the incident unfolded. According to his statement, the conflict with Joan Zyko began about two weeks ago, after a verbal argument between them.
Sterjo stated that on the day of the incident, he was near the premises in front of the cinema, when he saw the Mercedes-Benz C-Class vehicle that, according to him, was used or owned by Joan Zyko.
According to the testimony, after the vehicle stopped, Sterjo approached the driver. He claims that Zykos had a knife with him and tried to hit him, and then got out of the vehicle. At this point, according to Sterjo’s statement, there was a physical confrontation between them and several people intervened to separate them.
After leaving the country, Sterjo stated that he returned to his apartment, where he retrieved a firearm that, according to him, he had previously kept hidden.
Then, according to his testimony, he headed towards the area where Zykos lived and saw him near a bar in front of the “EUROMARKET” market, in neighborhood no. 14.
According to the statement, Sterjo approached Zykos after taking the gun from a bag. Zykos ran away and Sterjo followed him to a building. There, according to his testimony, he fired a gun at Zykos.
After the shooting, Sterjo states that he did not see if Zykos was injured or what had happened to him. He then left the area and, according to him, hid the gun in some bushes near the “Field of Trees.”
After returning to his apartment, he changed and put the clothes he was wearing in the washing machine. He then stayed for a period in an uninhabited apartment near his house.
Following investigative actions, the police arrested Kristjan Sterjo in flagrante delicto on August 9, at around 00:30.
During the personal search, according to the investigative document, a Xiaomi phone and a charger were seized from him. Samples for forensic examinations were also administered, as well as the clothing that Sterjo was wearing at the time of the incident.
