TRAGIC/Tourist dies from electrocution while taking a shower!

A 17-year-old Irish boy has tragically died while on holiday in Greece after allegedly being electrocuted while taking a shower in a rented apartment on the island of Kimolos, in the Aegean Sea.

The serious incident occurred on August 9. According to Greek police, the teenager fell immediately after being electrocuted, while initial suspicions are related to a defect in the house’s electrical installations.

Authorities immediately requested technical expertise on the apartment’s electrical system, while investigations are focused on the condition of the installations and safety measures. According to preliminary data, the house’s electrical installations are suspected to have not been renovated for decades, while the electrical panel may not have had a safety mechanism to cut off the supply in the event of an anomaly.

An autopsy on the 17-year-old’s body was expected to be carried out at a hospital in Piraeus, near Athens, while hospital sources have said that the cause of death may have been cardiac arrest caused by the electric shock. The young man’s family had strong ties to the island of Kimolos, as his mother is originally from the area and the family regularly visited the island.

The mayor of Kimolos, Kostas Vendouris, said that the small community of less than a thousand inhabitants is in mourning and shock after the event. Investigations to fully clarify the circumstances continue, while the family has been given the opportunity to appoint an independent technical expert to follow the investigative process.
