The National Food Authority has announced that shipments of poultry and beef from Brazil will continue to be accepted at Border Control Points. This decision applies only to shipments where the veterinary certificate was issued before September 3, 2026, even if the shipments arrive in Albania after this deadline.
The clarification follows changes to European Union rules that removed Brazil from the list of countries authorized to export these animal products. The European Commission has specified that the new restrictions will not apply retroactively to exports approved before that date.
As a result, all shipments equipped with the proper documentation before the deadline will be allowed to enter the domestic market regularly. The AKU guarantees that it will continue strict monitoring at the border to ensure the protection of public health and food safety.

The National Food Authority, following the amendments to Commission Implementing Regulation (EU) 2026/1189, which amended Commission Implementing Regulation (EU) 2021/405, announces that Brazil has been removed from the list of third countries or regions thereof authorized for the entry into the European Union of consignments of certain categories of animals and products of animal origin intended for human consumption.
Also, referring to Ministerial Order No. 294, dated 13.06.2006, “On the import of meat from the Federative Republic of Brazil”, the import of these products is conditional on the approval by the European Union of the production areas and establishments.
In the context of the implementation of the changes, we would like to inform you that on May 28, 2026, in Brussels, a meeting was held between representatives of the UECBV (European Livestock and Meat Trade Union) and DG SANTE, during which representatives of the European Commission clarified that shipments for which the relevant certificate was issued before September 3, 2026 will continue to be accepted at the Border Control Posts (BCP) of the European Union, as the new requirements do not apply to exports from third countries carried out before this date.
The National Food Authority clarifies that consignments of poultry and bovine meat originating from Brazil, for which the official veterinary health certificate was signed and/or issued before September 3, 2026, will continue to be accepted at Border Control Points, even if these consignments arrive in the territory of the Republic of Albania after September 3, 2026.
The National Food Authority will continue monitoring and implementing the requirements of the legislation in force, with the aim of guaranteeing food safety and protecting public health.
