“I came from Italy just for the protest.” This is what one protester said, indicating that the main reason that brought her to the square is her mother, who lives on a pension that, according to her, is not enough to meet her needs.
“He has a pension, but the money is not enough. He cannot give us anything and he cries,” she said.
The woman said she left Albania 25 years ago, after losing her job after the closure of Metalurgjiku. She said she needed to make a living and decided to leave for Italy. Her profession is a laboratory technician and chemist, and today she works in a hospital in Italy as a nurse’s aide.
“I left 25 years ago. I wasn’t working, Metalurgjiku closed and I was unemployed. I needed to live and I took the road, I left. I’m a laboratory technician, a chemist,” she said.
According to her, the difference between the two countries is great, as in Italy she has found opportunities to work and live, while in Albania, as she says, people do not have the same opportunities.
“I work in a hospital in Italy as an assistant nurse. Italy gives you the opportunity, Albania doesn’t give you any opportunity. People walk ahead waving the party flag,” said the protester.
