The “London punks” who get rich with barrooms and dominance in cocaine sales in the United Kingdom will not be able to enjoy the assets they have acquired.
Assets seized from criminal activity will now benefit both countries. Albania and the United Kingdom have signed the first agreement of its kind in the Western Balkans, on the sharing of assets recovered from crime.
The agreement follows the conclusion of a criminal case in England and Wales, which related to the supply of cannabis to organised crime groups. Joint investigations by British and Albanian authorities led to the identification and recovery in Albania of proceeds of criminal activity.
In the first phase, £54,000 worth of recovered real estate will be split equally between the British government and the Albanian Agency for the Administration of Seized and Confiscated Assets.
So, the seized assets do not simply remain blocked, but after the legal procedures for their recovery are completed, their value is divided between the two countries and can be reinvested for socially beneficial purposes.
The agreement was finalized and officially signed in the United Kingdom on August 6, following the launching ceremony in Tirana on July 13, attended by British Ambassador Nicholas Abbott and the Chief Administrator of the AAPSK, Risena Xhaja.
This agreement aims to hit the finances of criminal groups, following money across borders and depriving criminal organizations of the benefits of illegal activity.
In the first half of 2025 alone, assets worth over 58 million euros were seized and confiscated in Albania, including more than a thousand real estate properties.
