Following the death of 36-year-old pregnant woman, Marjana Karolina Bunaj, who was in her seventh month of pregnancy, the Police have initiated criminal proceedings against three maternity doctors in Pogradec.
The serious event occurred on the evening of August 30, 2026, when Marjana Karolina Bunaj presented herself at the Pogradec maternity hospital in poor health.
After being examined by three maternity doctors, the 36-year-old left by ambulance for Tirana to receive more specialized medical assistance.
But along the way, her health condition deteriorated and the ambulance was directed to the maternity ward of the Elbasan hospital. Despite medical intervention, the hospital determined that the woman had lost her life.
After the event, the Crime Investigation Specialists of the Pogradec Police Station referred the materials to the Prosecutor’s Office, where criminal proceedings were initiated against the three doctors who had performed the examination of the 36-year-old.
The victims are Blerta Delijan, 35, a resident of Elbasan, Anri Topi, 40, and Saimir Çela, 34, both residents of Pogradec. All three worked as doctors at the Pogradec maternity hospital.
