Other details have emerged from the investigation into the explosive device explosion that rocked the center of Shkodra on the evening of September 12. The TNT was thrown into the yard of a house located near the city hall, while no one was injured in the explosion.
The objective of the incident and the motives remain under investigation. The apartment where the explosion occurred is owned by the Bushati family, while teacher Mehdin Bushati lives on the first floor with his wife.
From the security camera footage, investigators suspect that the person who planted the explosives acted alone. He reportedly arrived on a motorbike, wearing a diving suit to conceal his identity, while the vehicle was adapted to resemble that of a pizza delivery driver.
According to the preliminary dynamics established by the investigation team, the person approached the building, threw the explosive in the yard and then quickly left. So far, he has not been identified, while the police are analyzing camera footage in the area to reconstruct his route.
Mehdin Bushati and his wife were inside the apartment at the time of the explosion. Fortunately, both escaped without injury, while only material damage was recorded. The teacher has stated to the authorities that he is not aware of the causes that may have led to the attack. According to sources, investigators claim that he has not provided much information that could help in clarifying the motive.
One of the leads being verified is related to his brother, Gëzim Bushati, also known as Naser Bushati. He has been living in Germany for years and, according to current data, his last visit to Albania was about two or three years ago. The second floor of the building where the TNT was thrown is reported to belong to him.
Sources close to the investigation also claim that Gëzim, alias Naser Bushati, has previously had problems with the justice system and has served prison sentences in Romania and Germany, one of five years and the other of two years.
His past and activity outside Albania are part of the verifications that are being carried out. One of the police suspicions is that the explosion may have had a threatening character and the message may have been directed at him. However, this remains only an investigative lead and so far the motive has not been officially determined.
Investigators are also examining the possibility that the person who threw the explosives acted in exchange for payment. The manner of approach, disguise, and immediate departure after throwing the explosive are elements that are being analyzed by the police.
The explosion occurred at around 9:30 p.m. and, due to its power, was heard not only in the center, but also in other areas of Shkodra. The event caused fear among residents and tourists who were in that part of the city.
The situation was even more worrying because just a few meters away, in the square in front of the Shkodra Municipality, at that moment activities with music and games were taking place, where families and children were present.
Shkodra Police are continuing investigations to identify the perpetrator, determine the person who may have been the target of the attack, and fully elucidate the motives of the incident.
