After the recent incident with the State Intelligence Service, where its director Vlora Hyseni is suspected of having handed over secret information to businessman Ergys Agasi, arrested for the “AKSHI” file, former Interior Minister Sandër Leshi sees the solution in political will, but with hope in God.

It brings to mind the history of the survival of Albanians by Albanians from 1913 to 1997.

“There is always a solution if there is a will. It is a phrase of Fishta’s “God will protect Albania from the wrath of the Albanians”. We have such a relationship with God that he always protects us and surprisingly he has always protected us even when we have worked against it. Remember the year 1913 with those movements that Albanians fought against its independence.

“Remember the year ’97. And surprisingly we came out. I cannot rationally explain our survival because rationally we would have lost it by today. God protects us even when we work badly, God has protected us. I also believe that God will protect Albania even for the anger of Albanians who work against it,” said former Minister Lleshaj on Off the Record.

According to Lleshaj, what needs to change in our country is the ease with which public positions are given to untested people, which costs the state a lot.

“The ease with which we handle issues and the ease with which we hand over public positions to completely unknown, untested hands must change, this ease is costing us dearly. It cannot be allowed to give in. When you come to a public position you have to pawn something, which is your past. You have to have a proven past, where your collateral damage is manageable. When it goes up, the damage is catastrophic.

“You shouldn’t have any risk here, for the minister, the deputy, the heads of large agencies the risk should be zero. The opposite is no longer managed. An employee, when he sees his boss’s catastrophic failures, feels bad and I believe that subordinates imitate their boss and behave like him. If the boss is demanding and correct, everyone is like that,” he said.
