New amendments to the Highway Code have entered into force, which provide for stricter measures against drivers who violate traffic rules, with the aim of increasing road safety and reducing the number of accidents.
Among the most important changes is the suspension of driving licenses for up to two years for drivers caught driving under the influence of alcohol above the permitted limits or while intoxicated.
Likewise, sanctions for speeding have been tightened, providing for higher fines and suspension of driving licenses for repeat offenders.
The changes also affect the use of mobile phones and other communication devices while driving, establishing stronger rules for avoiding distraction at the wheel.
There is also a new procedure for reinstating a driver’s license after suspension, where new deadlines and conditions have been set that drivers must meet.
Authorities emphasize that the new legal package aims to strengthen road traffic discipline and increase safety for all road users.
