Five people have been arrested in the UK on suspicion of involvement in illegal migrant trafficking, including two Albanian citizens.
The case relates to a small boat spotted off the coast of Essex, while another accused has been arrested and is being held in custody in Bradford.
The last defendant is 44-year-old Fation Kalemaj, who has been remanded in custody until September 10. The next hearing is expected to take place at Bradford Court on this date.
Another Albanian national arrested for the same offence is 57-year-old Ilia Prendi. He was detained a few days ago in connection with an incident recorded on July 1, when a small boat was spotted on the beach at Holland-on-Sea, in Essex.
Also arrested in that operation were Konrad Dabrowski, 25, and Damian Ciuron, 41. Both were caught in the beach area, along with Prendin.
The boat’s pilot, 45-year-old Italian Christian Albano, was arrested at sea by the Border Security Command.
The case is now in court proceedings, while British authorities continue their investigations to determine the role of each of the five individuals in the suspected migrant smuggling activity.
Fation Kalemaj will remain in custody until the September 10th hearing, when further steps in the case are expected to be decided.
