BREAKING NEWS/ The appeal of the Criminal Court returns the former minister to prison

The appeal of the GJKKO has returned former Environment Minister Lefter Koka to prison for the Tirana incinerator case.

With this decision, the security measure “prison arrest” is reinstated for Koka, who still has 6 months left to serve in prison, reports journalist Klodiana Lala.

The court also changed the verdict for Jetmir Llapaj, declaring him guilty of the criminal offense of “Abuse of office” in collaboration.

The appeals court sentenced him to 1 year in prison, a sentence that was reduced to 8 months in prison due to the summary trial. He was also banned from holding public office for 5 years.

Meanwhile, the Court upheld the first instance decision for:

Erjon Murataj

Namik Simixhiu

Bledar Karoli

Taulant Tusha

Valbona Ballgjini

Lefter Koka was previously released from prison after the GJKKO decided to terminate the security measure “arrest in prison”, with the argument that the pre-trial detention period had expired. The decision was opposed by SPAK, which requested the former minister’s return to prison.
