Albania enters the peak of a heat wave this Tuesday, with temperatures expected to reach 40 degrees Celsius for the first time this summer. Meteorologists warn that the extreme temperatures will not be a one-day phenomenon, but will last for almost a week.
Meteorologist Tanja Porja said that today marks the beginning of the hottest period of summer.
“Today is expected to be the first day when the temperature will reach 40 degrees,” said Porja.
According to her, the country will face several consecutive days of very high temperatures.
“There will be several consecutive days when the maximum thermometer will remain at 39-40 degrees. It is a period of 5-7 days,” said the meteorology.
The weather forecast announced that the weather will be dominated by clear skies almost throughout the territory, creating conditions for further increases in temperatures during the midday hours.
“Today there will be clear skies in most of the country. Even in mountainous areas the maximum value will be 34 degrees,” she added.
Heat waves have become increasingly frequent in recent years in Albania and the Mediterranean region, as a result of climate change. Temperatures reaching or exceeding 40 degrees Celsius significantly increase the risk of heatstroke, dehydration and other health problems, especially for the elderly, children and people with chronic diseases.
