Although temperatures dropped significantly last week due to the powerful storm that swept across the country, this week is expected to be “fiery” for Europe and the Western Balkans, including Albania.
It is even predicted that the country will face wildfires due to high temperatures.
As a result, the Civil Protection Agency, today, has issued an official response calling for operational forces to be on alert for any type of situation that may arise due to the flames.
While requesting that authorities seek assistance at times when they do not have the necessary capacities to keep the situation under control, Civil Protection requests that citizens be careful with their actions, so as not to become the cause of fires, calling on them not to light fires in open spaces, not to throw cigarette butts in forests, pastures or near dry vegetation, not to burn waste, grass or other materials in conditions of high temperatures.
And in moments when citizens may notice active fires, the agency seeks their cooperation by requesting that they immediately contact emergency services, as timely reporting is crucial for limiting the spread of flames.
Civil Protection Agency’s response:
According to the latest data from the European Union Civil Protection Mechanism, high temperatures and meteorological conditions are expected in the coming days that significantly increase the risk of fires in the region. A very extreme level of fire risk is predicted for Greece and Turkey, while the situation remains critical in some parts of Europe.
Due to the increase in temperatures in the region, it is expected that our country will also face an increased risk of the occurrence and spread of fires. In this context, the National Civil Protection Agency asks local self-government units, prefectures and operational forces to maintain human and logistical capacities on standby, to react immediately to any fire outbreak and, in the event of exhaustion of local capacities, to request support without delay, according to the procedures established in the civil protection system.
At the same time, the National Civil Protection Agency calls on all citizens to exercise maximum caution and respect preventive measures:
• Do not light fires in open spaces.
• Do not throw cigarette butts in forests, pastures, or near dry vegetation.
• Do not burn waste, grass or other materials in high temperature conditions.
• If you detect a fire, notify emergency services immediately, as timely reporting is crucial for limiting the spread of flames.
