A 55-year-old musician originally from Sicily was found dead in a hotel in the center of Perugia, while his partner was taken to hospital in a serious condition. It is suspected that both were poisoned by carbon monoxide.
The Carabinieri have launched investigations to fully clarify the incident, while the main clue remains that of an accident. According to preliminary data, the room where the couple was staying was located near the hotel’s boiler room and it is being verified whether the gas leak came from the heating system.
The couple had traveled to Perugia to participate in a musical event, where, together with a group of about 40 artists, they were scheduled to perform at the concert organized at the Sala dei Notari.
Concerns were raised after the two musicians failed to show up for the concert. Their colleagues notified the hotel, and during a check of the room, it was discovered that the 55-year-old had passed away, while his partner was found unconscious and immediately taken to the hospital.
Italian authorities are continuing investigations to determine the exact cause of the incident and to verify whether the poisoning was caused by a defect in the heating system.
