Vučić’s statement on the Ibar River, the US also reacts

The United States of America has also reacted to statements by Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić regarding the possibility of changing the course of the Ibar River.

The US State Department told Radio Free Europe that peace and stability in the Western Balkans remain among the priorities of the United States.

“Normalization of relations between Serbia and Kosovo is a necessary part of this process,” a State Department spokesperson stated.

On August 9, Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić stated that Serbian authorities are examining, together with experts, the possibility of changing the course of the Ibar River. He linked this idea to the demolition of Serb houses and villas near Lake Ujman in northern Kosovo.

The statement caused strong reactions from Kosovo officials and was later accompanied by a public clash between representatives of Albania and Serbia.

The European Commission has also recalled the importance of the dialogue between Belgrade and Pristina, emphasizing that progress in the normalization process is a prerequisite for the advancement of both sides on the path towards the European Union./Top Channel
