A serious road accident occurred on Saturday morning in the southeastern Turkish province of Diyarbakir, killing seven people, including two children. Local authorities initially reported five fatalities and 11 injuries, but the toll later rose.
According to the governor’s office, two people died at the scene of the accident, while five others died in hospitals where they were transported for medical assistance. Meanwhile, nine people continue to receive treatment in the hospital, one of whom is in serious condition.
According to Turkish television NTV, the minibus was transporting members of a family to Mushi, in the southeast of the country, where an engagement ceremony was to take place.
The family trip ended in tragedy after one of the vehicle’s tires burst during the drive.
After the tire burst, the driver lost control of the minibus, which went off the road and overturned. Emergency crews arrived at the scene and immediately began extracting the trapped people and transporting the injured to area hospitals.
The two children who died in this accident were 4 and 10 years old. Authorities have launched investigations to determine the full circumstances of the accident and whether there were technical problems with the vehicle before the trip began.
